Belmont and Laserline Dies
Laserline Dies Ltd are one of the UK’s leading die-makers to the corrugated and carton board industry, supplying flatbed corrugated / carton dies and rotary tooling. Laserline Dies were introduced to Belmont Packaging back in 2003 with a new installation of an Asahi AP 1600 MK II automated die cutting and creasing machine. Due to the extensive work already carried out with Asahi in Europe / UK and the United States, Laserline Dies were the designated supplier to assist with training and commissioning of the new machine.
Following a 2 ½ year vacation period of supply to Belmont Packaging, Laserline Dies were invited back in due to a downturn of efficiencies on the Asahi machine.
Not just a supply criteria at the right price, but becoming involved within the Belmont business. Observation exercises of working practices / undertaking internal audits of Belmont’s tooling ordering process / identify training requirements and undertaking the training of its operators where necessary / recommendations on pack design / exchange visits of personnel to each others premises to understand the manufacturing processes / appraisal exercises of the Belmont business. This and more has led the two companies to enjoy a true customer / supplier relationship.
Understanding each other’s business both in their strengths and weaknesses has cemented the partnership even more. Realistic lead times of tooling supply into Belmont, offers better planning of the conversion machines, better delivery service to Belmont’s customers and assists Laserline Dies in forward planning its own production. Its not all one sided, due to Laserline Dies success at Belmont Pkg recommendations have been given into other businesses associated with Belmont Pkg, both here in the UK and Ireland, which has led to additional business volume.
From what is a difficult industry - indeed a success story, may it continue!
